Partnerships with several types of transportation providers
Depending on the location of your TRC sponsoring agency, in-person chaperone services will be done through partnership with a variety of transportation providers with the goal of adding supportive companionship to existing services in local communities. As a TRC Chaperone, your role will not include providing transportation services, but will provide assistance to individuals who will benefit from a little extra support.
TRC Chaperone services often transform ‘curb-to-curb’ transportation into ‘door-to-door’ transportation, which means helping the client get from the door of his or her residence (or, on return home, from the health care or service site) to the door of available transportation and seated inside. And then from the transportation vehicle into their residence.
Situations vary widely, but clients may be trying to maneuver with a walker, oxygen, and a bag of their current medications, or may benefit from assistance in finding a specific office within a medical complex.
Importantly, TrustedRide-Certified helps fill the gap for individuals who may not have family, friends, or neighbors available when they need to get to/from essential services, with prioritization given to non-emergency medical care. A TRC Chaperone helps make possible greater access for vulnerable clients to these necessary services at no additional cost.

RideShare transportation (Uber/Lyft)

Some TRC sponsoring agencies have existing agreements with Rideshare providers to transport individuals to/from medical appointments, and TRC Chaperones ensure that this opportunity is available to a more diverse group of individuals. Rideshare companies, via websites and mobile applications, match passengers with drivers of vehicles for hire that, unlike taxicabs, cannot legally be hailed from the street. Well-known national Rideshare companies include Uber and Lyft, but there are many others depending on location. Volunteer transportation

Some TRC sponsoring agencies have existing agreements to utilize volunteer drivers to transport individuals to/from medical appointments and, similar to what was described above, TRC Chaperones ensure this opportunity is available to a more diverse group of individuals. Volunteer transportation may include volunteer vehicles as well as paid drivers and vehicles that are owned or leased by the organization providing volunteer transportation.
